Soft washing painted wood siding
High pressure is a poor match for old paint and wood siding. It can raise the grain, strip paint and push water behind boards, where it feeds rot. A soft wash works differently: a low-pressure rinse with a cleaning solution that kills growth, followed by a gentle rinse.
We check caulk, window glazing and trim before we start, and we mention anything that looks loose or soft. Peeling paint will not stay on after washing, and new paint can look better on a clean surface. If you are repainting, schedule the cleaning a few days beforehand so the walls can dry and the painters have a good base to work on.
